America's Forced Mistress

Author: Candyse McDonald

WITH THE CHALLENGES OF SYSTEMATIC RACISM, one can be discouraged and wonder to themselves, what can truly be done about this?  In this book, the author provides narratives, articles, and conversations that invite you as a reader to research and come together regardless of differences and hopefully work toward resolutions.

This book gives the reader an opportunity to broaden their mindset and keep humanity pushing toward genuine reconciliation while addressing oneself.  Furthermore, there are those who in the past have benefited from a system that nurtures privilege and legacy, often excluding many.  What fruitful actions can be taken in rectifying this well-known discriminatory practice of covertly suppressing wealth distribution without causing new damage as well as further damage?  Is it truly the answer to take away from the "Haves?"  Will granting the "Have-nots" sudddenly provide an even ground?  What is the purpose of cancel vs. correction within so many things that presently divide this country?  When there is a potential threat of livelihood being snatched away or if someone who has historically benefited from these inequitable practices suddenly becomes shifted into a position viewed by most as fair, is it truly effective?  Has true change just taken place?  Who defines what is fair?  You will see within the pages different scenarios that pose questions and make room for you to critically think about the variety of barriers of thinking, assuming, and staying stuck by doing nothing.

Unlike many books on race relations, this book stimulates the reader to chat beyond seminars, sensitive trainings, and academic teachings.  This is the opportunity for you to fill in the blank of what you deem to be relevant to the healing process of your school, neighborhood, church, work environment, and friendships.  There is the notion of not injecting into the reader "What could be", instead this book ignites the mindfulness of appreciating the range of input and varied testimonies that each one brings.   This is a process.  We encourage you to not arrive so quickly to conclusions but continue to make room for the process that is ever evolving.  Our future depends on this mental evolution of an open mind that is beyond elections, leadership roles, and bias that separate us.
